This week, the Pan Zhengcong Junior Tournament returns to the Goldwood Club in Goldwood, Texas.
This is the third time Pan has hosted an AJGA event since 2019, when he brought his children over from Chinese Taipei for his event. By holding two competitions, Pan Zhengcong has provided them with a platform to maintain and expand, as well as an opportunity they cherished during their 2007-2010 youth career.

The opportunities Pan received as a teenager played a big part in his motivation to host the AJGA. Pan is keen to make golf more inclusive and create more opportunities for youngsters like these kids from Taipei, China. "I want the kids in my hometown to know about AJGA and give them the opportunity to show up in front of a college coach in what could be a life-changing opportunity for them." Thinking about his path to the University of Washington by playing the AJGA, Pan added, "It changed my life."

Speaking of the young players he brought from Chinese Taipei, Pan is extremely proud of them. "In the first AJGA tournament I hosted in 2019, a girl from my hometown, Lu Xinyu, won." Lu currently plays at the University of Oregon and represented the school at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship in May. Pan pays close attention to all the achievements of these young people after they go to college. "Just to watch them grow up and become better players and better people and get an education at the same time, it's a great accomplishment. It's fun to be a part of their journey."
Another inspiration to Pan Zheng-Cong is Lin Quantai, a rising star at the University of Washington. Lim Quantae felt a special connection with his role model because he shared the same initials as Pan Jeong-cong (CT) and studied at the same university. "[Pan and Lin] helped me define my goal of playing on the PGA Tour and becoming the best golfer in the world." Lim Quantae credits Poon and his wife Lim for helping him get into college. "I went to the NCAA to pursue my dream, and it has the best facilities and training environment," he said.
"Poon Zhengcong is like my brother," said Lim Quantai, who played for the international team in the 2019 Presidents Cup, and Poon Zhengcong, who was the first Chinese Taipei player to play for the international team. "It was the first time for both of us."
The teenagers are not taking anything for granted. At the Pan Zheng-Cong Junior Championships in July 2021, they congratulated Pan on his second selection to the Chinese Taipei Olympic Team. A month later, Pan emerged from the seven-man extended tournament to win the first ever bronze medal in men's Olympic golf in Chinese Taipei.
Pan won his first PGA Tour title at the RBC Heritage in 2019, the same week that the first Pan Zhengzong Junior Championship was held at Kingwood. He admitted he felt a little lonely that week because his wife was in Houston helping him with his first AJGA event, but he knew they were doing something right.
Pan Zhengcong never stopped doing the right thing. Since 2019, he has brought about 10 kids from his hometown to the AJGA every year, except in 2020 when the race was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Pan Zhengcong increased its number to 12 this year, including six boys and six girls. "I hope they will come to the United States to experience the best tournaments and PGA Tour-standard courses to help them succeed in the future."
Pan not only brought the children to the competition, but also held a private training camp for them outside the competition. During the training camp, Pan and Lin took care of the boys every day and gave them the chance to play more with them. "I try to create a safe and comfortable place for them to talk to me. I just want to help them as much as I can."

Zhengcong Pan 's contribution to AJGA over the past few years is just the beginning. Following the success of the initial event, Pan made good on his promise to hold two AJGA events in 2022 instead of just one. "We want the kids to have more opportunities to play in the summer," Pan said, doing his best to set the platform for them. "If they're good enough, they can play two games this summer, and I think that's what they want and what college coaches want to see - more consistent results."
Zhengcong Pan will hold its second AJGA tournament of the year, the Pan Zhengcong Foundation Championship, July 25-28, in Beaumont, Calif., this summer.
