China's Dou Zecheng shot a five-under-par round to surge into contention for the Korn Ferry Tour's Constellation Championship second round on Friday. He is moving toward a return to the PGA Tour.

Dou, 25, had six birdies and swallowed just one bogey on the TPC Colorado course for a two-day total of eight under par and will go into the weekend tied for third, two shots behind the leaders.

Dou is currently 19th on the Korn Ferry Tour points list, and the two-time Korn Ferry winner needs a solo third, four-way tie or better this week to secure his PGA Tour card for next season.

"I played more consistently these two days, and the course is still very challenging," Dou said. "I missed a few birdies today, but I was very consistent overall."

It was a welcome return to form for the talented Dou, who in 2017 became the first golfer from the Chinese mainland to earn a PGA Tour membership card via Korn Ferry. He had a good start to the 2022 season with three top-fives in his first 11 races, but failed to make the final round in his last three.

"It has nothing to do with my mindset. I didn't particularly think about getting my PGA Tour card, it just came naturally," Dou said. "It was just a matter of action, and I feel much better these last two weeks."

Compatriot Zhang Xinjun, who also played with Dou on the PGA Tour in 2017-18, carded a second-round 70 to finish tied for ninth on six under, four shots behind the leaders. Zhang is currently ranked 80th in the standings.

Yuen, who had already earned PGA Tour entry rights earlier this season, followed up his first-round 71 with a 70 to tie for 26th.
